Electric Tankless Water Heaters
Innovative water heating products have always been a Stiebel Eltron focus. Stiebel Eltron pioneered basic tankless technology almost 90 years ago and has been refining it ever since. Today we are the world's leading tankless manufacturer, with over 20 million units sold worldwide.
Tankless, also called "on-demand", or "instantaneous" water heaters differ from tank water heaters. Unlike a tank that always keeps a large amount of water stored at full temperature, a tankless water heater is inactive until there is a demand for hot water. Once the unit senses there is water flowing through it, it activates its heating elements to quickly get the water up to the desired temperature. This demand could be from a sink, shower, dishwasher or washing machine, for example. Tankless electric water heaters offer major energy savings, are compact and can be installed nearly anywhere plumbing allows.
Energy Savings Plus Water Savings
A conventional tank water heater full of hot water constantly loses some of its energy to the room it is in. This is called stand-by loss. Since a tankless electric water heater does not store hot water, it has no standby losses. This can save anywhere from 10–20% of the cost of a standard electric tank.
Since tankless electric water heaters are compact and need no venting, they can often be installed close to the points where hot water is needed. This means shorter pipe runs from the water heater and less waiting for hot water than when a tank must be located farther away. This can be especially noticable with point-of-use electric tankless units that supply a single sink, for example. They can be installed right under a sink, making hot water almost instantly available. Compact design and wide range of installation options nearly anywhere allows tankless electric water heaters to offer both energy savings and water savings.
Whole House Tankless
Whole house models of tankless water heaters are powerful units, like our Tempra® series, designed to provide hot water to all of a household's major fixtures, including showers, tubs, sinks and appliances. Whole house models come in sizes that can supply hot water for one fixture or multiple fixtures at the same time. This makes sizing a tankless water heater very important. Several factors are involved in choosing the right size tankless water heater, including how many fixtures must be supplied with hot water simultaneously. The colder the climate you live in, the more powerful unit you will need. For example, ground water temperatures in northern Minnesota are much colder than they are in southern Florida. To get their water to their desired hot water temperature, a person buying a tankless water heater for a Minnesota home would need a much more powerful model than a person in southern Florida would need. Our sizing guides go in to more detail about the sizing process. You can also contact us to answer your questions. We're happy to help with sizing.
Point-of-Use Tankless
Point-of-use tankless water heaters are smaller than whole house models. They are designed to supply hot water to only a single fixture at a time. Our Mini™ Point-of-Use Tankless Electric Water Heaters are designed to provide warm water for handwashing to a single sink. DHC Single Sink Tankless Electric Water Heaters are more powerful models that can also accommodate higher-flow fixtures like utility or janitor's sinks. DHC-E Point-of-Use Tankless Electric Water Heaters feature sophisticated electronic controls that allow the unit to provide hot water to multiple handwashing sinks, higher flow rate sinks, or in some instances, low-flow showers.

Point-of-Use Mini-Tank
Another versatile option for getting hot water to a sink, or even several sinks, is an SHC Mini-Tank. SHC Mini-Tanks store small amounts of hot water, 2.5, 4, or 6 gallons, depending on size. Installation is easy and is usually done in the space under a sink. All SHC mini-tanks come prewired so they simply plug into a standard 120 V outlet. They do not need to be hard wired. An SHC Mini-tank frees up precious space while providing plenty of hot water for hand washing or kitchen type applications. SHC mini-tanks are also used for specialty installations such as a booster at a sink far from a remote water heater, in a hot water recirculation loop, or even in campers or food trucks. Installed close to a sink, SHC mini-tanks can even save water by providing hot water almost instantly without waiting.
Why store 30 or more gallons of hot water when 6, 4, or just 2.5 gallons is sufficient for the job, and right there?
